OUR STORY
The Justin Scott Fishing Classic was formed in memory of our keen fisherman Justin Scott in 2020. At its core, this event is simply about bringing friends and family together to share memories of Justin and create new memories – catching a fish is just a bonus! EVENT GROWTH
There was huge interest in the event from its conception. More than 60 teams expressed interest for our first event in 2020 but the field was capped at 43 teams to keep it manageable, being our first year. We have since increased our cap and our 2023 event saw 64 teams and 188 anglers nominate. The event is family friendly and we encourage anglers to bring their friends and families along to the presentation, so our 188 anglers quickly turn into a 200+ event. There are no restrictions on who or how many people can come to the presentation – the more the merrier! Choosing to sponsor the Justin Scott Fishing Classic will give you direct access to all those anglers, event attendees and volunteers.
SOCIAL MEDIA reach
At October 2023, our Facebook page had 1,101 followers made up of 47.1% male and 52.9% female primarily between the ages of 25 – 44. Our followers reach as far south as Brisbane, as far north as Cairns, as far interstate as Darwin and even as far internationally as New Zealand.
This demonstrates not only our broad diversity of followers but our reach into other parts of the country/world outside of the Burdekin area. Our post reach can be up to 2,500 and attract almost 2,000 engagements.
ETHICAL & INCLUSIVE
In 2022 our event transitioned from a catch and kill to a catch and release tournament, making it a more sustainable and ethical sponsorship choice for businesses. We also partner with the Burdekin Fish Restocking Association to raise money to keep putting Barramundi back into Burdekin waterways.
The Justin Scott Fishing Classic is a two-day fishing competition where teams of two or three take to the water to out-fish other teams and each other! There are eight individual award categories and the highly coveted Champion Team award, not the mention the Metre Club, Best Dressed and Hope Ya Jokin’ awards. There are three main events that allow us to give our sponsors exposure:
Orientation Night
Thursday 14th March, 2024
This night is a meet and greet where we run through the rules and answer any questions anglers might have.
Competition
Friday 15th to Saturday 16th March, 2024
Fishing in the competition will run over these days.
Presentation
Saturday 16th March, 2024
The presentation concludes the Justin Scott Fishing Classic where results are calculated and prizes are awarded.
